Your crafting bench is the whole economy of 99 Nights in the Forest. Everything you survive with — tools, weapons, armor, map and compass — comes out of it, and its upgrade level gates what you can build.
Crafting bench tiers (framework)
The bench upgrades unlock recipe groups in order. The exact item names and material costs shift with updates — this is the progression shape, not a fixed price table.
| Bench tier | Unlocks (typical) |
|---|---|
| 1 | Basic axe, spear, simple storage |
| 2 | Better tools, traps, shelves |
| 3 | Weapons tier-up, armor basics |
| 4+ | Late-game weapons, advanced traps, compass/map tools |
⚠️ Verify in-game: Always confirm current recipe names and material costs at your bench — balance patches re-tune these regularly.
Core tools
- Axe — wood gathering; upgrading it is the single biggest economy multiplier.
- Spear — the reliable early weapon; cheap, ranged, safe from inside walls.
- Map & Compass — unlock the exploration loop and rescue hunting; vital for late game.
Weapons by phase
| Phase | Best weapon | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Early | Spear | Safe from behind walls |
| Mid | Upgraded spear/axe | Damage catches up to threats |
| Late | Top-tier weapons from bench | Bear and hard-mode fights demand burst |
Loadout recommendations
- Defense night: spear + repair stack + light.
- Gathering day: axe + food + no heavy armor.
- Rescue run: weapons + map/compass + light + partner.
Defense loadouts pair with Base Building; damage builds pair with Modifier Flames.
